Meet Father Henry Igbokwe

Known by his stage name Mazi Uc, born on June 13th, 1991. A Catholic Priest, gospel musician, humanitarian and founder of Hearts for the Poor Foundation. He is also known in Austria as Kaplan Henry Igbokwe and has also music group called "Henry & Friends". He has dedicated his life to spreading love, compassion, and faith through his various endeavours.

Early Life and Education

Born with the name Henry Uchechukwu Igbokwe, he studied Catholic theology at the University of Vienna and the topic of his research work is and was ordained as a priest on June 29th, 2022, in Austria. With a heart filled with empathy and a desire for change, he embarked on a journey to serve others and make a difference in the world.

During his theological studies at the University of Vienna, the issue of poverty was always on his mind. The prophecy of Amos became a prime example for him regarding some social issues, especially poverty, social stratification and social injustice. This gave rise to the desire to take a closer look at the issue of poverty in his Magister Thesis. 

Priestly Life

  • Mazi Uc was ordained as a Catholic priest on June 29, 2022.
  • His ordination marked the beginning of his dedicated service to the Holy Roman Catholic Church.
  • Since September 2023, he has been serving as a chaplain in several parishes, including St. Valentin, Langenhart, Ernsthofen, St. Pantaleon, and Erla.
  • As a chaplain, he provides spiritual guidance, celebrates Mass, and supports the faith community.

Philanthropic Activities and Notable Achievements

His interest in the poor has not been limited to his academic work; He has become friends with them, which has become his spiritual fuel. In order to magnify this interest in the poorest of the poor in his village, an NGO was founded to campaign for free education. This association is a realization of his personal conviction that the best thing one can do for God is to have a heart for the poor. For years, during his university time he saved every year to help the poorest of the poor in his village. His NGO has assisted poor single mothers in starting small businesses so that they can provide for their children. During festive periods, he identifies with them through small gifts and food to brighten up the festivities.

Through his NGO the following activities are achieved on yearly basis:

  1. Free Education Campaign:

    • Fada Mazi Uc founded an NGO called Hearts for the Poor Foundation. This organization advocates for free education for the poorest children in his village, Umuezegwu, Nigeria. Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, and Fada Mazi Uc actively supports this cause.  This scholarship for the poorest of the poor as of May 2024 has recorded over 80 kids as beneficiaries. Also, in February 2024 over 750 kids gathered in his hometown to receive special support for their education.

  2. Support for Apprentices:

    • Though his NGO Hearts for the poor, young individuals have been empowered by providing them with sewing machines and other materials. These tools enable them to pursue careers in sewing and fashion design. By doing so, he not only imparts practical skills but also fosters economic independence.

  3. Annual Free Medical Treatment:

    • Collaborating with Austrian friends, Fada Mazi Uc organizes free medical treatment events. These events address immediate health concerns within the community. His commitment to improving overall well-being extends beyond theoretical knowledge. Thios Free Medical Eye Check-up and treatment started in 2023 and in 2024 over 800 people were recorded to have collected sun- reading- and medicated-glasses and medications.

  4. Gospel Music:

    • As a passionate gospel musician, Mazi Uc creates melodies that matter. His music resonates with love, positivity, and faith. Through his songs, he uplifts hearts and inspires listeners.

  5. Online Presence:

    • Mazi Uc maintains an online presence through his official website, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Telegram and a YouTube channel. These platforms allow him to share his music, message, and humanitarian efforts with a wider audience.

  6. House Project for a Blind Man:

    • His NGO embarked on an inspiring house project for a blind man and his two sons.
